USEFI Executive Director's Message

Dear students, professionals, and scholars in India,

The U.S. Educational Foundation in India (USEFI), the Fulbright Commission in India, is pleased to announce a new round of fellowship competitions open to Indian citizens for 2009-2010.  In addition to providing personal, academic and professional growth, Fulbright and other exchanges promote mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and India.   This section of USEFI's website describes fellowship opportunities, eligibility criteria, and procedures for applying.

Once you find a fellowship of interest, I suggest that you visit the current fellows page on USEFI's website to learn about recent proposals that have been successful.  Talk with Fulbright and other alumni about their U.S. settings and experiences.  USEFI staff and our website alumni page can provide leads to people in your field who will be glad to answer questions.  Once you are prepared to apply, you can download application forms from our website.

Screening and selection committees look for talented individuals whose projects are important to India and the U.S. and who have the ability to be good "cultural ambassadors."  The ideal exchange fellow is one who both contributes important work in his/her field and encourages Indo-U.S. networking during and after the fellowship.

Please share this information with those who may be interested.  Best wishes to those who apply!
