FULBRIGHT-HAYS FACULTY RESEARCH ABROAD (FRA) PROGRAM
 
 
The purpose of this award is to contribute to the development and improvement of the study of modern foreign languages and area studies in the United States by providing opportunities for scholars to conduct research abroad.
 
Duration:
 
Three to twelve months
 
Eligibility:
  • Citizen/national/permanent resident of the United States
  • Employed by an institution of higher education and not conducting dissertation research for a Ph.D.
  • Has taught his or her foreign language or area studies specialization for the two years immediately preceding the date of the award
  • Proposes research relevant to his/her modern foreign language or area studies specialization, which (i) cannot be conducted in the United States; and (ii) will contribute to the development or improvement of the study of modern foreign languages or area studies.
Procedure to apply/application procedure:
 
Faculty should apply directly to institutions of higher education. Selections are made by the American Department of Education on the basis of the criteria published in the Federal Register.
 
Grant benefits:
 
(provided directly by the U.S. Department of Education)
  • Travel expenses, including excess baggage to and from the residence of the fellow, to the host country of research.
  • Maintenance allowance based on academic year salary for the fellow
  • Project allowance for research related expenses such as books, tuition and affiliation fee, etc.

  • $100 Administrative fee to the applicant institution
