About USEFI
The bilateral agreement on education exchange singed by prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru and U.S Ambassador Loy Henderson on February 2, 1950, Established the united state Education Foundation in India (USEFI) to administer the Fulbright program in India. A Bi-national Board of Directors consisting of 10 members, five Americans nominated by the U.S Ambassador and Indians nominated by the government of India, governs USEFI.
Since 1950, USEFI has awarded approximately 7350 Fulbright fellowship to Indians and Americans. Addition to these programs sponsored by the U.S Department of state, USEFI also has administered approximately 8000 fellowships funded by the U.S government such as the East-west center grants, faculty Research abroad program, Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad program and group Project and Seminars Abroad Program. During the year 2004, USEFI will continue to host seminars and round tables to encourage dialogue with visiting and returning scholars on topics of contemporary interest.
USEFI's activities may be broadly categorized as:
- Administration of Fulbright fellowship for Indian American student, faculty and professionals.
- Profession of dialogue among Fulbrighters and their communities as an outgrowth of educational exchange.
- Educational Advising services for student interest in pursuing interested in pursuing higher Education in the U.S.

Friends of Fulbright to India, Inc.
Friends of Fulbright to India, Inc. is a non-profit organization formed in 1993 by former Fulbright scholars to India who have an ongoing interest in promoting academic exchange between the USA and India. Friends of Fulbright to India, Inc. has supported student grantee travel to India.
’Friends of Fulbright' is operated by former Fulbrighters who volunteer their time. The organization is recognized as tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code. Contributions to the organization are tax deductible to the extent permitted by U.S.law.
To give back to the Fulbright community in India:
Donate time and funds to friends of Fulbright to India, Inc and send us idea for potential donors. The Organization would welcome your help in convening meeting of Fulbright in your area to welcome Indian Fulbright scholars during their fellowships in the U.S.
