Fulbright-Hays Fellowships: Summer Seminars Abroad

U.S. educators travel abroad for short-term study and travel seminars under the Fulbright-Hays Summer Seminar Abroad program funded by the U.S. Department of Education. U.S. educators in the social sciences and humanities, and sometimes science and mathematics teachers as well, are selected to participate to improve their understanding and knowledge of the peoples and cultures of other countries. In order to broaden understanding of India, USEFI annually administers one or more programs for groups of educators at levels ranging from primary through college.

The purpose of the Seminar Abroad program is to enhance curricular offerings and teaching capacity in American classrooms as well as to promote mutual understanding between the people of India and the people of the U.S. The seminars expose U.S. educators to different aspects of Indian art and cultural heritage such as the land and its people, religion and society, visual and performing arts, and history. The programs also focus on other contemporary issues in economic development, education, women's rights, grassroots movements and Indo-American relations. As part of the seminar activity, each participant also develops a curriculum project on his/her understanding on India on highly diverse topics. The Education Resources Information Center, in Washington, D.C., maintains record of all projects submitted as part of the Seminars Abroad programs. USEFI has created this website to provide information on seminars abroad programs to India. The purpose of the website is to maintain a database on participant profiles, abstracts of their curriculum projects, and to provide a platform to the participants to share their post-seminars activities, and to network with each other.
